Get Involved at First Pres!
Every act of service can build the Kingdom of God on earth. Throughout the year, First Pres offers opportunities to give back by taking advantage of our various spiritual gifts, abilities, backgrounds, personality types, and experience levels. Most of our serving opportunities are family-friendly, so grab the kids and let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus!
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. ~1 Peter 4:10

Kitchen Samaritans
Share your gift of cooking by preparing and delivering meals to those who need a little help after a surgery, illness, new baby, death in the family, etc. Email Mary Ann Cooper to join the list!

Hospitality Troupe
The Hospitality Troupe is a Host of Hospitality Angels! Volunteer to provide hospitality during important times in people’s lives, treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous manner. Sign up to be on a list to help out, as you are able, to serve at weddings and funeral receptions at the church.
Summer Bible Camps
Summer Bible Camps are our wildly popular week-long camp brings the message of Jesus to our area children! We need A LOT of volunteers to make this wonderful week happen.
Would you volunteer? We have opportunities to teach, lead activities, guide specific age groups, donate supplies, decorate the church, and so much more! No experience necessary! All volunteers will be trained, and provided all information and materials they need. For more information or to volunteer, contact the Director of Children’s Ministries, Maggie Downs.
Sunday Morning Nursery Volunteer
Do you love babies? Volunteer in the First Pres Nursery on Sunday mornings!
You will welcome parents and children to the nursery, and provide a safe and caring environment with age-appropriate activities. We will provide all the training you need! Serve whichever Sundays work for you!

Volunteer Opportunities With our Mission Partners
Homeless Ministry
First Pres collects for area homeless, many of whom come through our doors for a clean shirt, new socks, or jacket. We are looking for used or gently used clothing for men. Look for the collection bins near the office to collect new and gently used items throughout the year. Email the office to learn more.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child, a part of Samaritan’s Purse, is an annual giving campaign that distributes shoe boxes of practical and fun gifts to poor children globally. Individuals and families from our congregation rally, gather, and assemble these boxes at a Packing Party each fall! Look for the collection bins near the office to collect new and gently used items throughout the year.
Get Involved in Worship
Our Sunday morning worship time is a great place to get more involved. We have volunteer opportunities to serve during worship, assisting with the audio/visual from the balcony, and occasionally help set up or break down for Sunday events. We are also looking for liturgists. Liturgy literally means “the work of the people.” Liturgists guide the people gathered for worship by reading scripture or offering prayers during the Sunday morning worship service. Nursery & Children's Ministry Opportunities
First Pres Children’s Ministries often needs volunteers to nurture the spiritual lives of our children who are at the very beginning of their Christian journey. Volunteers will be trained to teach, assist, and foster a welcome and safe learning environment for our children. Opportunities include nursery care, teaching, and mentoring. Christmas Giving Tree
The Giving Tree is a First Pres tradition that provides Christmas gifts to those in our community who would otherwise have none. Each November, a tree in our west lobby is adorned with ornaments from local organizations such as New Moms, Circle Urban Ministries, or By the Hand Club for Kids, asking for specific gifts. The tree is generally up in October.
First Pres Service Day
What’s better than serving alongside your church family? First Pres Service Days provide an organized opportunity for the entire family to volunteer their time and energy to serve our neighbors. Past Service Days have benefited New Moms, Circle Urban Ministries, Chicago Hope Academy, and Sarah’s Inn. Check our Events page for our next Service Day.
