Adult Ministries

We are committed to each individual's spiritual formation and discipleship. God's ultimate goal for each one of us is that we become spiritually mature by becoming more and more like Christ in our thoughts, feelings, and actions. With worship as the center of our life, we learn, connect, and serve together in various ways, including the following...

Small Groups: Numerous small groups meet throughout the week in homes, at restaurants, and in our church building. These groups of 6-10 adults meet to study, discuss and nurture relationships. smallgroups@firstpresrf.org

Adult Christian Education: Various classes are offered during both Sunday services. See column on right.

Read through the Bible in a year with M'Cheyne's Bible Reading Plan.

Visitors' Connect: A time to meet the pastors in an informal setting.

Thirsty-30 (coffee/snack time): Between our two worship services all ages gather in the Social Hall. Come make a connection.

MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) meets two Fridays each month.

Annual All-Church Retreat (first weekend in November): A great way to connect and build relationships.

Annual Women's Retreat: Women growing in faith together.

ricknfriends15 The Pottery Ministry-funded by the Rick and Friends Concert coming this Fall..... Rick Sutton, our Facilities Director and regular on the praise team, has a vision. Artistic expression as a means to deepen faith and fellowship. Rick has led a Pottery Ministry at other churches in the past as well as taught pottery classes for the Park District in Plainfield. His vision is to purchase a wheel, kiln and other materials to set up pottery classes here at First Pres in the Activity Hall (basement of the church). The classes will be an opportunity to experience a creative outlet that has easy connections to contemplating personal faith. Rick hopes to see this resource become a place of community and creativity. In the process of teaching the pottery-making, Rick draws on biblical texts and principles that relate to the Christian life. The major theme,of course, relates to God as "potter" and God's people as "clay" (Jeremiah 18; Romans 9:19-21). There are plenty of other illustrations that relate to the pottery-making such as what happens when the "wheel" is off-center, what happens when there are impurities in the "clay," etc. When the classes are set up there will be opportunities for wheel throwing as well as pinch pot and coil pot building. More details will be shared as the project moves forward. Pray for this endeavor and for Rick as he steps in faith to build a new opportunity at First Pres.
